The Rastafarian religion uses dreadlocks as a symbol of submission to God's will, and in Jamaican society, deadlocks were worn as a rebellion against the classification of its people based on their Hair texture. Dreadlocks continue to be worn by many cultural and religious groups and have made a permanent place in today's society. This aesthetic can be achieved by letting hair lock naturally or with the use of various latch hook tools.
How long will it take?
That depends on how long your hair already is and how big or small you want your dreads and if you wish to have your ends rounded or free falling. Rounded ends is an additional cost)
How soon can I wash my hair?
I suggest you use a pre - shampoo or a cleanser. everyones hair is different and washing to soon may cause locs to unravel. The crochet needle matts the hair so their should be no unraveling, but each individual is different, i'd rather you hold off on washing to soon (at least 2-3 weeks out).
Do you use products to start dreads?
The crochet needle is ultimately all that is needed to start and maintain dreadlocs and little aloe vera gel or dread wax (petroleum free) is used to control the frizz.
What is the difference between cultivated locs and dreadlocs?
Cultivated locs are generally worn by Afro Americans and Dreadlocs are mostly worn by Caucasians. Cultivated locs are started by using up to 3 styling methods one being palm rolling and Dreadlocs can be started using the crochet needle or rip and tear method. Cultivated locs can take up the 2yrs to loc and dreadlocs are locked instantly..
